Massage parlors, discos warned for violations<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The West Jakarta authorities have reprimanded 22
\nmassage parlors and discotheques, as well as a factory, for
\nallegedly violating regulations.<\/p>\n
The massage parlors and discotheques are accused of offering
\nprostitutes to their customers, while the factory is charged with
\npolluting the environment.<\/p>\n
\"Mayoralty officers have checked people's reports about the
\nviolations, and we have reprimanded them,\" Karsidin, head of the
\nWest Jakarta Mayoralty's Office of Security and Order, told The
\nJakarta Post on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Some people reported that the owners of the massage parlors
\nand discotheques have abused operational business permits by
\noperating their parlors and discos as brothels.<\/p>\n
All massage rooms have doors that can be locked. Under the
\nexisting regulations, massage parlors are required to close their
\nrooms with curtains only.<\/p>\n
The delinquent massage parlors and discotheques are located on
\nJalan Daan Mogot, Jalan Mangga Besar, Jalan Hayam Wuruk, Jalan
\nPintu Besar Selatan, and in Taman Lokasari. \"If they continue to
\nviolate the regulations, the authorities will not hesitate to
\nclose them down,\" Karsidin said.<\/p>\n
Recently, the West Jakarta authorities demolished tens of
\nbrothels in the Kalijodo and Kampung Perancis districts.<\/p>\n
Karsidin emphasized that the West Jakarta authorities would
\nnot go easy on entertainment sites which are being used as
\nbrothels. \"There is no place for brothels in West Jakarta.\"<\/p>\n
Karsidin disclosed that he had also received a report which
\nalleges that PT Victory Laundry in Duri Kepa, West Jakarta, has
\npolluted the environment.<\/p>\n
The garment factory has no waste-treatment plant, as is
\nrequired by the government. It simply dumps its wastes into a
\nriver without processing. The West Jakarta authorities will ask
\nthe factory to immediately set up a waste-treatment plant in its
\ncompound, Karsidin said.<\/p>\n
Water in the river was heavily polluted and has turned blue.
\n\"It produces a very offensive smell,\" Tumirin, who lives near the
\nfactory, said.<\/p>\n
He said that people living around the factory have complained
\nabout the pollution to the Kebon Jeruk District Office, as well
\nas the West Jakarta Mayoralty. (29)<\/p>",
