Massage parlors attacked in Ciracas<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Nearly 300 people attacked seven small
\nestablishments on Jl. Raya Bogor in Ciracas, East Jakarta,
\nSaturday night.<\/p>\n
Two massage parlors, three stalls selling liquor, a stall
\ntraditionally operated by Batak people, and one billiard center,
\nall located in two neighborhood units, were torn down during a
\nrampage by local residents.<\/p>\n
According to Toha Reno, the head of the public order office's
\nentertainment division, the attack was related to previous
\nprotests by residents upset with the establishments in their
\narea.<\/p>\n
"The residents said the amusement centers were violating
\nregulations," he said. One of the massage parlors, he said, was
\nonly in possession of a restaurant permit.<\/p>\n
Toha said some of the places destroyed had been closed down by
\nhis office earlier, but had resumed operating several days later.<\/p>\n
No casualties were reported and financial losses have yet to
