Masjid Agung Al Azhar in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, has
introduced eco-friendly bamboo baskets (besek) for distributing Eid
al-Adha sacrificial meat in 2026, though usage is not yet 100%
implemented. Tatang Komara, Head of Masjid Agung Al Azhar’s office,
explained that the mosque has used besek for two years to comply with
DKI Jakarta Provincial Government’s call to reduce single-use plastic
bags. ‘For the first stage, we use bamboo baskets. For the past two
years, we’ve provided besek for individual donors and local recipients,
including officials,’ Tatang told journalists on Wednesday (27 May 2026)
at the mosque in South Jakarta. He acknowledged that not all meat
packages use besek, particularly for distant areas where plastic bags
are still used to prevent blood leakage, adhering to guidelines against
black bags—opting for white or red instead. ‘This year, we’ve eliminated
on-site coupon distribution to avoid crowds and potential unrest.
Instead, we’re delivering meat directly to government institutions,
Islamic boarding schools, orphanages, and individuals,’ Tatang added.
The mosque will slaughter 14 cows and 43 goats on 27 and 28 May. ‘Today,
42 goats will be slaughtered, and tomorrow, three cows and one goat will
be processed with Hipmi Syariah DKI,’ he said. Tatang confirmed strict
adherence to halal slaughter standards, with certified juleha ensuring
procedures comply with Islamic rites. ‘We only use certified butchers
who follow proper ethical practices for slaughtering animals,’ he
concluded.
",
