        "content": "<p>Jakarta (ANTARA) \u2013 Martha Tilaar, a pioneer and founder of a local\nnatural cosmetics brand, died on Wednesday morning (14 October) after an\nillness.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe ask for your prayers so that Mother may rest in peace with God.\nShe may have been ill for the past week. It was actually only a mild\nillness, just flu, but today she passed away in her sleep,\u201d said Dr\nKilala Tilaar, Martha Tilaar\u2019s youngest child, when met at the funeral\nhome in the Patra Kuningan area of Jakarta on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Kilala said his mother\u2019s death was a profound loss for him and the\nrest of the family, as well as for the country\u2019s beauty industry.\nNevertheless, he felt that she had passed away peacefully.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut Indonesia has certainly lost a pioneering figure in beauty, a\npioneer of local brands that Mother Martha Tilaar had championed for so\nlong. So I think it is not only us [the family] who have suffered a\nloss; many in the beauty industry will probably feel it too,\u201d Dr Kilala\nTilaar said.<\/p>\n<p>Martha Tilaar\u2019s eldest child, Bryan David Emil Tilaar, also said that\nhis mother had received hospital treatment for around eight to nine days\nbefore her death.<\/p>\n<p>Dr (HC) Martha Tilaar died at 6.22am Western Indonesian Time on\nWednesday (14 October) at Medistra Hospital in Jakarta, aged 89. Her\nbody is due to be buried on Friday, 16 October 2026, at San Diego Hills\nMemorial Park in Karawang, West Java.<\/p>\n<p>Martha Tilaar founded the Martha Tilaar Group, which grew into a\nbusiness group operating in cosmetics and herbal medicine manufacturing\nand marketing, beauty education, spas and distribution.<\/p>\n<p>She began her career in the beauty industry in 1970, opening a modest\nsalon in the garage of her parents\u2019 home in Menteng, Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>Drawing on her knowledge of modern beauty techniques and inspired by\nher family\u2019s traditional knowledge of jamu and Javanese palace beauty\nrecipes, Martha Tilaar developed an approach that combined science,\nnatural resources and Indonesia\u2019s local wisdom.<\/p>\n<p>Through the various brands she developed, the woman born in Kebumen\non 4 September 1937 helped lay the foundations for a local beauty\nindustry that brought Indonesia\u2019s natural resources and culture to the\nglobal stage.<\/p>",
