Marlina breaks junior record<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia's Marlina broke a junior world record
\nat the 1997 Asian Power lifting Championship in Chang Hua,
\nChinese Taipei, which was staged from Oct. 30 to Nov. 3.<\/p>\n
Marlina, who competed in the women's 48 kgs division, lifted a
\ntotal of 412.5 kgs, 30 kgs more than the old record of 382.5 kgs
\nlifted by Chang Lai Hsiu of Chinese Taipei and also broke the
\nworld record of 402.5 kgs produced by Yamskich Elena of Russia.<\/p>\n
Marlina lifted 162.5 kgs in the squat, compared to 155.0 kgs
\nby Bitebaeva of Kazakhstan. In the bench press, she recorded
\n100.0 kgs, surpassing the old record of 92.5 kgs made by TS
\nWatanabe of Japan.<\/p>\n
In the championship -- which featured Indonesia, Japan, South
\nKorea, Hongkong, the Philippines, Chinese Taipei, Malaysia,
\nIndia, Pakistan and Uzbekhistan -- Indonesia won eight golds,
\nfive silvers and three bronzes.<\/p>\n
Indonesia only sent four lifters; Marlina, Mingguriaty in the
\nwomen's 56kgs, Sahroni in the men's 82.5kgs and Taufik in the
