Markup in subdistrict's land purchased<\/p>\n
TANGERANG: Some 150 residents of Margasari subdistrict,
\nKarawaci district of Tangerang staged a rally at the municipal
\ncouncil office on Monday to demand an investigation be conducted
\nover an alleged markup in the purchase of land that will be used
\nfor the subdistrict's new office.<\/p>\n
\"Several district and subdistrict officials had marked up the
\nprice of the plot,\" said Partono, who led the protesting
\nresidents.<\/p>\n
He said that the owner of the 400 square-meter plot, Suhanda,
\nsaid he had sold the plot to subdistrict and district officials
\nat Rp 200 million, while the municipal administration officials
\nhad earlier disbursed Rp 350 million as requested by the district
\nofficials to buy the plot.<\/p>\n
\"We are sure that the rest of the money has gone into the
\npockets of several subdistrict and district officials,\" he said.<\/p>\n
The residents demanded that the Tangerang City Council's
\nCommission A on public affairs soon form an investigating team to
\nprobe the scandal.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, chairman of the commission, Fachrudin responded
\nemotionally and almost engaged in a fight with chairman of the
\nTangerang Government Watch Tony Wismantoro whom he accused of
\nhaving instigated the rally.<\/p>\n
Luckily, residents managed to calm Tony, who nearly fell over
\nafter being shoved by Fachrudin.--JP<\/p>",
