        "content": "<p>Sebatik (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Navy Marine Corps distributed\nRed-and-White flags to residents of Sebatik Island in Nunukan Regency,\nNorth Kalimantan, ahead of the 81st anniversary of the Republic of\nIndonesia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are distributing flags to every household. We also give flags to\npassing vehicles so that the public can join in celebrating Independence\nDay,\u201d said the commander of the 30th Outermost Island Security Marines\nTask Force, Captain Ahmad Rizwan, in Sebatik on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Marines handed out flags to residents from house to house, to\nfishermen, and to passers-by. According to him, the activity aims to\nnurture a sense of love for the homeland, especially among people living\nin the country\u2019s border regions.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond that, various social activities and competitions will be held\ntogether with the local community as a form of togetherness between\nsoldiers and residents.<\/p>\n<p>The volleyball and football pitches located directly in front of the\ncommand headquarters will serve as the centre of activities for\nresidents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe plan to hold various competitions with the community. The aim is\nto grow closer to the people while also enlivening Independence Day,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>Rizwan acknowledged that celebrating independence in border areas\ncomes with limitations compared to urban areas. Nevertheless, he is\nconfident this does not diminish the community\u2019s enthusiasm for\ncelebrating Independence Day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the cities the celebrations may be more festive, while here they\nare simpler. But the proceedings remain solemn and full of spirit,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>The Marine Corps called on the people of Sebatik Island to continue\nsafeguarding national unity and to strengthen their love for the\nhomeland, even though they live in a border area directly adjacent to a\nneighbouring country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven though we are in a border region, the love for our homeland\nmust remain strong.
