        "content": "<p>The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) of Karawang Regency, West Java, is\ncoordinating with the local Immigration Office following a high number\nof foreign nationals declaring their conversion to Islam at the Karawang\nMUI office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have visited the Karawang Class I Non-TPI Immigration Office and\nagreed to enhance synergy to detect potential immigration violations,\u201d\nsaid the General Chairman of MUI Karawang, KH Tajuddin Nur, on Friday\n(31\/07\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>Lately, a considerable number of foreign nationals have been making\ntheir profession of faith at the Karawang MUI office. In fact, almost\nevery month, new converts arrive at the office to be guided through the\nrecitation of the Shahada.<\/p>\n<p>Approximately 30 per cent of these converts are foreign nationals,\noriginating from countries including China, Japan, South Korea, and\nThailand, as well as European nations such as Germany and Finland. The\nmajority of these foreign nationals choose to convert to Islam due to\ntheir intention to marry Indonesian women. Consequently, MUI Karawang is\ncoordinating with the Karawang Class I Non-TPI Immigration Office to\ndiscuss and consult on immigration-related matters.<\/p>\n<p>The First Secretary of MUI Karawang, Ustadz Yayan Sopyan, stated that\nwhile preachers are pleased to welcome foreign nationals seeking to\nembrace Islam, they must exercise caution. Therefore, the council seeks\nguidance from the Immigration Office regarding potential modes of\noperation or risks of immigration irregularities.<\/p>",
