Manpower Minister Yassierli has set a target for at least 100,000\npeople with disabilities to become self-reliant and enter the workforce\nthrough strengthened competencies and training prepared by the\ngovernment.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy minimum target is that 100,000 people with disabilities can smile\nwhen they arrive at their workplace,\u201d said Yassierli in an online\naddress at the National Kick Start event for the Economic Empowerment\nand Self-Reliance of Beneficiaries (PEKA) programme by BPJS\nKetenagakerjaan, followed from Pontianak on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
He said the government is currently building a competency training\ncentre for people with disabilities in Bekasi and developing special\ntraining modules so that they acquire skills suited to the needs of the\nlabour market.<\/p>\n
According to him, people with disabilities must be given the\nopportunity to work not out of pity, but because they possess\ncompetencies required by industry.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want them to be present in industry working not out of pity, but\nbecause they have competence,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Yassierli also emphasised the importance of collaboration between the\ncentral government, regional governments, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, the\nbanking sector, and various parties in expanding employment\nopportunities and improving community self-reliance.<\/p>\n
He appreciated the economic empowerment and self-reliance programme\ninitiated by BPJS Ketenagakerjaan to help beneficiaries and heirs\nutilise compensation payments as business capital.<\/p>\n
According to him, the programme can be strengthened by partnering\nwith the Ministry of Manpower, which runs the Self-Reliant Workers\nprogramme, including mentoring and coaching for people starting\nbusinesses.<\/p>\n
\u201cBPJS Ketenagakerjaan does not stop at providing money or\ncompensation, but also oversees how that money or compensation can be\nbeneficial,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Yassierli noted that the Ministry of Manpower already has thousands\nof profiles of self-reliant workers who have successfully developed\nbusinesses, so that coaching model can serve as a reference for\nstrengthening economic empowerment programmes.<\/p>\n
In addition to entrepreneurship, the government is also expanding the\nnational apprenticeship programme with a target of 150,000 participants\nin 2026, especially for university graduates who need experience and\ncompetence before entering the workforce.<\/p>\n
He said the programme is part of the government\u2019s efforts to\nstrengthen human resources and realise community self-reliance towards\nthe goal of a sovereign, just, and prosperous Indonesia.<\/p>\n
