The Minister of Manpower, Yassierli, stated that the National\nInternship Programme implemented by the government features a unique\nscheme that may not even be found in other countries. This is because\ninterns receive full funding from the government for six months,\ncovering everything from pocket money to support throughout the\nprogramme.<\/p>\n
According to Yassenderli, the scheme was initially designed as part\nof an economic stimulus. However, in its implementation, the government\nhas observed that the benefits of the programme extend far beyond merely\nproviding financial assistance to participants.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis internship programme might not exist in other countries;\nperhaps it is unique, with the full six months being covered by the\ngovernment,\u201d Yassierli said during the CNBC Indonesia Economics Update\non Friday (3\/7\/2026).<\/p>\n
He noted that during the six-month internship, participants do not\nonly gain work experience but are also directly involved in various\nactivities within companies. Based on government evaluations, this\nsix-month period is considered to have a significant impact on the\nparticipants\u2019 job readiness.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt turns out that through their interaction over these six months,\nthey learn many things, build portfolios, and participate in\nproblem-solving projects, and so on. This six-month period has proven to\nbe extraordinary,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n
Yassierli mentioned that the response from companies towards the\nprogramme has been very positive. According to evaluations by the\nMinistry of Manpower, the majority of companies expressed satisfaction\nwith the implementation of the national internship programme.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe response we received from companies shows that 86 companies\nstated they were satisfied or very satisfied. About 13% were merely\nsatisfied. So, in fact, almost 98% expressed satisfaction,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He explained that the internship programme was initially prepared as\nan economic stimulus package to stimulate the purchasing power of\nparticipants through the provision of pocket money. However, after its\nimplementation, the government observed that the programme also\naddresses long-standing issues in the labour market, ranging from skill\nmismatches to worker competitiveness.<\/p>\n
\u201cActually, this programme is an economic stimulus package. We must\nunderstand that it was originally designed to stimulate the economy\nthrough the provision of pocket money. But as it progressed, we saw that\nit did not stop there; the six-month programme, exposing them to the\nworking world, provides many solutions to the issues we often face\nregarding skills, skill mismatches, labour competitiveness,\nproductivity, and so on,\u201d Yassierli explained.<\/p>\n
In his view, the internship programme serves as a way to bridge the\ngap between fresh graduates and the needs of the professional world.\nDirect exposure to the working environment for six months is believed to\nhelp participants understand work rhythms, build portfolios, and\nincrease the competencies required by industry.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd it turns out that the internship programme can indeed address\nthose challenges,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, government evaluations show a tangible impact on labour\nabsorption. Data from all alumni of the first cohort who completed the\nsix-month internship shows that 30% of them were immediately offered\njobs by the companies where they interned.<\/p>\n
