        "content": "<p>Manila mulls another media tour<\/p>\n<p>MANILA (Reuter): The Philippines said yesterday it may allow a<br>\nsecond media tour of the disputed Spratly islands despite<br>\nwarnings by China the first was a provocation that should not be<br>\nrepeated.<\/p>\n<p>\"We are willing to bring another batch or more of our Manila-<br>\nbased reporters and foreign journalists to the Spratlys depending<br>\non the demand and the level of interest,\" Foreign Secretary<br>\nDomingo Siazon told reporters.<\/p>\n<p>A May 11-17 tour organized by the Philippine Defense Ministry<br>\nfor 38 journalists sparked a row between Manila and Beijing.<br>\nChina denounced the trip as a violation of Chinese sovereignty,<br>\nbut President Fidel Ramos brushed aside the protest.<\/p>\n<p>Two Chinese ships harassed the Philippine navy ship carrying<br>\nthe journalists near Mischief Reef, which was occupied by China<br>\nlast February but is also claimed by Manila.<\/p>\n<p>Ramos sent a special envoy to Beijing in a bid to defuse the<br>\ntension caused by the confrontation in the area.<\/p>",
