        "content": "<p>Manila budget deficit within ceiling<\/p>\n<p>MANILA : The Philippines budget deficit for April stood at 6.58<br>\nbillion pesos (US$126 million), well within the target of 12<br>\nbillion pesos to put the country on track to meet its full-year<br>\nestimated deficit of 202 billion pesos, the finance department<br>\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>The department said in a statement that the April outcome<br>\nreflected 18.6 percent growth in total revenues to 65.9 billion<br>\npesos, with both internal and customs departments exceeding their<br>\ntargets for the month.<\/p>\n<p>For the January-April period, the budget deficit was down 21.1<br>\npercent year-on-year to 65.5 billion pesos.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The deficit in April is the lowest we&apos;ve seen in many months.<br>\nWe are encouraged by it,&quot; Finance Secretary Jose Isidro Camacho<br>\nsaid in the statement.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Such performance likewise emboldens us to pursue drastic<br>\nreform measures we have been taking to instill fiscal discipline<br>\non all fronts,&quot; he added. --AFP<\/p>",
