Maneuvers against Megawati<\/p>\n

Together with former president Abdurrahman \"Gus Dur\" Wahid's
\nfirm resistance, especially at the moment when the People's
\nConsultative Assembly's special session was about to proceed, it
\nwas obvious that some of those around Gus Dur were making strong
\nendeavors not only to show their loyalty but also to position
\nthemselves favorably.<\/p>\n
As regards the latter, let's highlight particularly the
\nprocess of political communication between Gus Dur's spokesmen
\nand the electronic media. One TV station held an interview with
\nWimar Witoelar. Unflinching, Wimar explicitly stated, \"I'm not
\nsure Megawati Soekarnoputri can stay in power long... she could
\nwell be ousted in three months.\"<\/p>\n
Wimar's statement was contradicted by Sabam Sirait but he
\nignored it, and went on to condemn the PDI Perjuangan and members
\nof the People's Consultative Assembly for having no consciences
\nas regards Gus Dur's ouster. Actually, if the statement had been
\nsaid by a legislator, it would have been understandable. But the
\nway it was said makes us question how far a presidential
\nspokesman can play his role.<\/p>\n
Several days before the special session, TVRI presenter Usi
\nKarundeng's gave Gus Dur such an easy ride during an interview
\nthat we were astonished and driven to wonder whether she was
\ntrying to follow former information minister Harmoko's
\n\"acrobatic\" style so that she could enter into the circles of
\npower.<\/p>\n
Usi Karundeng appeared so enthusiastic when acting as the
\nmoderator in a discussion program titled Constitution and Reform
\nDirections, in which a dialog among a number former chairmen of
\nsmall political parties, Gus Dur and Rachmawati from the Bung
\nKarno Educational Foundation was featured. Blatantly, she steered
\nthe debate towards the conflict between Megawati Soekarnoputri
\nand Rachmawati.<\/p>\n
For example, she trapped Rachmawati with the following
\nquestion: \"Under these circumstances, the vice president should
\nalso be responsible and, if necessary, she should resign,
\nshouldn't she?\" Above all, I would suggest that the presidential
\npalace be cleansed of people such as Wimar Witoelar, Adhie
\nMassardi, Yahya Staquf, and also the silent Indrawadi Tamin.<\/p>\n
TVRI shouldn't recruit people who are only good at
\nbootlicking. There are still many prospective and professional
\nemployees who would make good presenters on TVRI.<\/p>\n
