Witular, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta<\/p>\n<p>In a further development in the massive Bank Mandiri lending<br>\nscandal, the government-sponsored corruption team may name<br>\nseveral of the bank's incumbent board of directors as suspects in<br>\nthe case.<\/p>\n<p>Coordinator of the anticorruption team, Hendarman Supandji,<br>\nsaid it was possible that the directors would be named suspects<br>\nsince they have had a long career in the bank and might have<br>\nknown of or been involved in the scam.<\/p>\n<p>\"There is a possibility that several of the incumbent<br>\ndirectors may be named suspects, but it will depend on the<br>\nprogress of our investigation,\" he said after meeting President<br>\nSusilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Hendarman said the current suspects -- Bank Mandiri's former<br>\npresident director E.C.W. Neloe and vice president director I<br>\nWayan Pugeg who have been under detention since May 17 -- had not<br>\nnamed other directors that may have been involved amid the<br>\nprosecution's efforts to uncover other suspects.<\/p>\n<p>Neloe was replaced by Agus Martowardojo, who was appointed by<br>\nthe government as the controller of Bank Mandiri, a day earlier.<\/p>\n<p>But Agus appointment is somewhat controversial as he was among<br>\nthe bank's former executives who had been questioned by<br>\nprosecutors over the massive lending scam involving more than Rp<br>\n12 trillion (US$1.26 billion).<\/p>\n<p>The prosecutors questioned Agus over his role in extending<br>\nproblematic loans to companies when he was Bank Mandiri's<br>\nmanaging director for risk management and credit restructuring<br>\nbetween 1999 and 2000.<\/p>\n<p>Another Bank Mandiri director who was questioned was Omar<br>\nSjawaldy Anwar, who currently deals with consumer banking<br>\nbusinesses.<\/p>\n<p>Hendarman said the prosecutors would extend the detention<br>\nperiod for Neloe and Pugeg by another 20 days.<\/p>",
