        "content": "<p>Management aborts feeder contracts<\/p>\n<p>Damar Harsanto, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta<\/p>\n<p>TransJakarta Busway Management has terminated the contracts of<br>\ntwo busway feeder system operators due to their failure to comply<br>\nwith the required services for the 12.9-kilometer busway corridor<br>\nfrom Blok M in South Jakarta to Kota in West Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>The termination of the contracts takes effect on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\"The two operators, Kopami Jaya and PT Metromini, failed to<br>\nimprove their services, even though we already reprimanded them.<br>\nWe have received lots of complaints from the feeder bus<br>\npassengers on their poor service,\" busway management spokesman<br>\nAdjar Aedi told The Jakarta Post on Sunday by phone.<\/p>\n<p>He said passengers had complained that crews on the feeder<br>\nbuses routinely refused to accept feeder bus tickets, instead<br>\ndemanding cash.<\/p>\n<p>\"We hope the annulment of the contracts will serve as a<br>\nwarning to other operators to improve their services,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>Kopami and PT Metromini served five routes: Cidelug-Blok M<br>\n(with the Metromini S 69), Ragunan-Blok M (Metromini S 77),<br>\nPondok Labu-Blok M (Metromini S 610), Lebak Bulus-Blok M<br>\n(Metromini S 72) and Senen-Muara Angke (Kopami Jaya P.02).<\/p>\n<p>The other feeder system operators are state-owned bus operator<br>\nPPD, Steady Safe, Kopaja, Bianglala, Pahala Kencana and Mayasari<br>\nBhakti.<\/p>\n<p>\"We are still discussing with the City Transportation Agency<br>\nthe possibility of getting new feeder service operators to<br>\nreplace the two whose contracts we terminated,\" Adjar said.<\/p>\n<p>Representatives of PT Metromini and Kopami Jaya could not be<br>\nreached for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Busway management head Irzal Z Djamal has acknowledged the<br>\nfailure of the feeder system to provide adequate service to the<br>\npublic.<\/p>\n<p>He said the eight feeder system operators have failed to<br>\nprovide an adequate number of buses as specified in the agreement<br>\nthey signed.<\/p>\n<p>Data from the management shows the 383 feeder buses owned by<br>\nthe eight operators accommodate only a few hundred passengers a<br>\nday, far from the average number of busway passengers of about<br>\n62,000 per day.<\/p>\n<p>Irzal said the number of passengers using the feeder services<br>\nhad continued to decline since the operation of the feeder buses<br>\nbegan on Feb. 1.<\/p>\n<p>The transportation agency, however, plans to continue with the<br>\nexpansion of the busway, with the construction of new corridors<br>\nfrom Pulo Gebang in East Jakarta, to Kalideres in West Jakarta,<br>\nvia the National Monument Park (Monas).<\/p>\n<p>The Pulo Gebang-Monas corridor is slated to be operational<br>\nnext June, while the Monas-Kalideres is expected to open in<br>\nOctober 2005.<\/p>\n<p>With at least nine months to go, however, the Post observed on<br>\nSunday no construction work along the proposed new corridors. The<br>\nCity Parks Agency, which is responsible for removing trees along<br>\nthe median strips along Jl. Perintis Kemerdekaan and Jl.<br>\nSuprapto, has yet to begin the work.<\/p>\n<p>The City Public Works Agency has also yet to widen the narrow<br>\nparts of Jl. Perintis Kemerdekaan and clear it of on-street<br>\nparking and street vendors.<\/p>",
