Man shot dead during bar brawl<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A man was fatally shot by a police officer, who
\nwas beaten up when he tried to disperse an angry crowd at Bar MW
\non Jl. Tubagus Angke, West Jakarta, early Saturday morning,
\nJakarta Military Police Commander Col. Hendardji said.<\/p>\n
He said on Saturday that Yudi, alias Rasiding, 31, believed to
\nbe a customer at the bar, was shot in the chest. He was rushed to
\nAtmajaya Hospital in Pluit, North Jakarta, but was announced dead
\non arrival.<\/p>\n
\"As he did not survive, his body was sent to Cipto
\nMangunkusumo General Hospital for a postmortem examination,\" he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
According to Hendardji, the fight was sparked by a group of
\nregular customers who call themselves Sakerah.<\/p>\n
\"Apparently the Sakerah members got angry over other patrons'
\nconstant requests for songs from the dangdut music band and how
\nthey showered the singers with money, sometimes physically
\npicking up a singer on stage.<\/p>\n
\"Then a customer threw a beer bottle at the stage and people
\nstarted fighting,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Windows, furniture, garden pots and band equipment were
\ndamaged during the brawl, prompting customers and entertainers to
\nflee the scene.<\/p>\n
The bar employees then reported the incident, which took place
\nat 2:30 a.m., to Tanjung Duren Police subprecint officers, who
\nrushed to the scene.<\/p>\n
\"Witnesses said they heard gunshots and then found Yudi lying
\ndown, wounded,\" Hendardji said.<\/p>\n
Military police have questioned four witnesses so far.<\/p>\n
A reliable source identified the police officer who shot the
\nvictim as Second Lt. Suradi, who reportedly fired warning shots
\nwhile he was being attacked by the crowd.<\/p>\n
The place was temporary sealed off by the police, pending
\nfurther investigation.<\/p>\n
The bar had apparently reopened a month ago after its closure
\nin May, when it was looted and torched during the riots. (edt)<\/p>",
