Man shot dead after snatching necklace<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Police shot dead a man for allegedly resisting
\narrest late Tuesday after he was caught snatching a gold necklace
\nfrom a woman at Pulogadung Bus Terminal in East Jakarta.<\/p>\n
City police spokesman Lt. Col. Zainuri Lubis said on Wednesday
\nthe man was identified as Erwin Parasihan Pakpahan, allegedly a
\nknown hoodlum at the capital's biggest bus terminal.<\/p>\n
Law enforcers have shot 27 convicted or suspected
\ncriminals so far this year.<\/p>\n
Lubis said Erwin was shot twice in the head and right side of
\nhis chest.<\/p>\n
\"The suspect was shot after he posed as a minivan passenger to
\nrob a female passenger, named Suniah, 35, on the public vehicle,\"
\nLubis said.<\/p>\n
They were the only passengers on the minivan which plied the
\nPulogadung-Rawa Kuning route.<\/p>\n
When the minivan approached the bus terminal at about 7:45
\np.m., Erwin pulled out a small knife from his jacket and
\nthreatened Suniah.<\/p>\n
\"Erwin then snatched the victim's necklace,\" Lubis said.<\/p>\n
Suniah and the driver immediately began shouting for help
\nbefore Erwin alighted from the vehicle.<\/p>\n
Police officers at the bus terminal surrounded Erwin but Lubis
\nsaid the man challenged the officers.<\/p>\n
\"He didn't abide by the officers' order to throw down his
\nknife. He kept it in his hand, ready to hurt anybody who came
\nclose to him.\"<\/p>\n
Officers fired three warning shots into the air before
\nshooting directly at Erwin's body.<\/p>\n
His corpse was sent to Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital in
\nCentral Jakarta for autopsy. Police returned the gold necklace to
