A man identified by the initials MSA (25) has been arrested by police\ndue to his expertise in assembling both low-explosive and high-explosive\ndevices. He is also suspected of conducting dozens of bomb detonations\nas experimental tests. Police apprehended MSA at his residence in\nParompag, West Bandung, and seized several improvised bombs.<\/p>\n
\u201cRegarding the high-explosive bombs, he has conducted approximately\n16 trials. He performed these with significant explosive power and\nrecorded videos of them. For low-explosives, he has conducted\napproximately 40 trials,\u201d stated the Head of Public Relations for the\nWest Java Regional Police, Kombes Pol Hendra Rochmawan, during a press\nconference at the West Java Regional Police Headquarters on Thursday\n(17\/9).<\/p>\n
In addition to assembling bombs and conducting detonation tests, the\nsuspect allegedly recorded methods for bomb assembly and distributed\nthem within a WhatsApp messaging group named \u2018True Crime Community\u2019, a\ngroup dedicated to real-life crime cases.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn this context, his role was that of an extreme crime motivator. He\nwas glorifying crime within this group. Even more concerningly, he acted\nas a tutorial creator for explosive manufacturing. Using his self-taught\nskills and ability to learn, he taught others in the group and actively\nsent posts,\u201d Hendra explained.<\/p>\n
Hendra stated that the evidence seized from the suspect included one\nmortar projectile (8.8 cm diameter, 44 cm length, 75-80 mm calibre), 50\nblank cartridges, 50 live rounds of 5.5 mm calibre, as well as chemicals\nand explosive manufacturing supplies such as potassium chlorate,\nsulphur, black powder, and baking soda.<\/p>\n
Also seized were aluminium powder, thinner, gauze powder, potassium,\nzinc powder, detonator powder, rush powder, along with mortars, pestles,\nand digital scales.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, officers discovered grenade casings, three firearm\nbarrels, a spring, a trigger, and various stainless steel pieces shaped\nlike barrels and cylinders of different sizes intended for assembly into\nfirearms.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlso seized was one unit of a crossbow along with five bows,\nbowstrings, quivers and arrow pouches, archery medals, eight packets of\nmetal arrowheads, and arrow shafts made of wood and fibre,\u201d he\nelaborated.<\/p>\n
Other evidence included backpacks, books, scriptures, cement, fuses,\ntweezers, rulers, charcoal powder, detonator casings, small bottles,\nlatex gloves, and fermentation wick bottles.<\/p>\n
Police also secured various carpentry tools and protective equipment,\nincluding chisels, wire brushes, toothbrushes, grinding discs, clamps,\nsoldering irons, glue guns, fibre plates, hacksaws, wire sandpaper,\ncutters, drill bits, sewing thread, stationery, four steel helmets with\npadding and visors, as well as hand and foot protectors.<\/p>\n
The Head of Sub-directorate 1 of the West Java Regional Police\nCriminal Investigation Division, AKBP Rikky Aries Setiawan, stated that\ninvestigations revealed the suspect learned bomb-making skills through\nsocial media. He was also inspired by the bombings that occurred in\nBandung several years ago.<\/p>\n
