Man gets 8 years for killing<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Central Jakarta District Court has sentenced a
\nprofessional \"three-in-one\" passenger to eight years in jail for
\nkilling an alleged hoodlum in Tanah Abang.<\/p>\n
Prosecutor Rudy Yulianto said over the weekend that Waiman,
\n27, was found guilty and sentenced by the court in a trial led by
\nJudge Madnyono on Thursday.<\/p>\n
\"Waiman's lawyer appealed the verdict while I'm still
\nconsidering whether to also make an appeal,\" Rudy told The
\nJakarta Post.<\/p>\n
He said Waiman, from Ngawi, East Java, was found guilty of
\nkilling M. Faisal alias Soni under Pejompongan bridge in Tanah
\nAbang in August 1995.<\/p>\n
Rudy said Waiman, a bus conductor, was arrested on Jl.
\nSenopati in South Jakarta on March 3 when he was temporarily
\nworking as a three-in-one passenger.<\/p>\n
The defendant told the court earlier that his arrest was
\nengineered by two officers, Oloan and Jimi Nainggolan of Tanah
\nAbang Police subprecinct, in an attempt to earn a promotion.<\/p>\n
He said he only knew Soni as a notorious hoodlum in the area
\nand admitted to having been attacked by Soni and his friend,
\nUjang, in 1995.<\/p>\n
Waiman's lawyer, Esther I. Jusuf from the Jakarta Legal Aid
\nInstitute, said that the defendant was in another place at the
\ntime of crime, but did not mention the place. (jun)<\/p>",
