Police have confirmed the suspect is a civilian and not a member of the police force, and the incident stemmed from a dispute over fuel subsidies and mismatched vehicle registration.

A man with the initials JMH (31) has been named a suspect for
assaulting a petrol station attendant in Cipinang, East Jakarta. The
man, who claimed to be a general, faces a two-year prison sentence.

JMH is charged under Article 466 of the Criminal Code regarding
assault, with a maximum prison sentence of two years and six months or a
fine of up to Rp 50 million, and/or Article 471 of the Criminal Code
with a maximum prison sentence of six months or a fine of up to Rp 10
million.

Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Kombes
Budi Hermanto, said that the suspect is confirmed to be a civilian and
works as a private entrepreneur. In the circulating video, JMH claimed
to be a general.

“From the examination, the person concerned is not a member of the
Police. We emphasize that there is no involvement of police personnel in
this incident,” said Kombes Budi, as reported by Antara, Thursday
(26/2/2026).

He ensured that the handling of the case was carried out
professionally and transparently. The police have also secured evidence
in the form of a pair of vehicle license plates, a Toyota Vellfire car,
a recording of the assault, and the victim’s clothing.

“Acts of violence against the public cannot be justified. We will
take firm action against every violation of the law without exception.
The investigation process is running according to procedure and
applicable legal provisions,” said Budi.

He invited the public to remain calm and wise in responding to
information circulating on social media.

“Trust the process of handling the case to the police. If you find a
similar incident, immediately report it via the 110 service or the
nearest police station so that it can be followed up immediately,” he
said.

Fake License Plate on a Land Cruiser

JMH assaulted the petrol station attendant because he was refused
when he wanted to fill up with Pertalite fuel in a Toyota Vellfire car.
There are at least two reasons why the attendant refused JMH to fill up
with Pertalite: the license plate did not match in the fuel filling
application and the Vellfire was not supposed to receive subsidized
fuel.

Chief of the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Kombes Alfian
Nurrizal, explained that the license plate L-1-XD attached to the
suspect’s car at that time was registered to a green Toyota Land
Cruiser.

“After we checked, the license plate L-1-XD is registered to a green
Toyota Land Cruiser. Meanwhile, the vehicle used by the suspect at the
time of the incident was a black Toyota Vellfire,” said Alfian.

The case of the Vellfire driver assaulting a petrol station attendant
in Cipinang, Pulogadung, East Jakarta, occurred on Sunday (22/2) night
at around 10:00 PM. From the examination, the license plate was borrowed
by the suspect from his colleague.

“The person concerned took or borrowed it from his colleague. So the
license plate belongs to someone else,” said Alfian.

The mismatch between the license plate and the type of vehicle is
suspected to be the beginning of the tension at the petrol station. When
the attendant found the discrepancy, an argument occurred which then led
to the assault.

Police are currently investigating the reason why the suspect used a
license plate that did not match the vehicle. Including, the possibility
of a certain motive behind the installation of the borrowed license
plate.

“We are still investigating all things related to the suspect at the
location,” said Alfian.

Testimony of the Petrol Station Attendant

The assault case began when one of the petrol station attendants,
Lukman Hakim (19), was on duty on Sunday (22/2) night at around 10:00
PM. According to Lukman, the queue of vehicles behind was getting
longer, so he took the initiative to speed up the process by asking for
the subsidy barcode which was a requirement for filling up according to
Pertamina’s procedure.

However, the situation suddenly heated up when the barcode shown did
not match the type of vehicle used.

Lukman said that the vehicle license plate was the same, but the data
and type of vehicle in the barcode were different. Allegedly, the man
was angry because he was reprimanded, so he started shouting in the
filling area. He even shouted and threatened the attendants.

The commotion continued when Lukman called staff to confirm the
filling policy. The suspect became even more emotional and pushed one of
the staff, Ahmad Khoirul Anam, until his head hit the suspect’s car.

Not only that, the suspect then approached another attendant and
slapped one of their colleagues, Abud Mahmudin, who was trying to calm
the situation.

The commotion is said to have lasted quite a long time, estimated to
be almost an hour from around 10:00 PM to almost 11:30 PM.

Positive for Meth and Marijuana

The East Jakarta Metropolitan Police revealed that the perpetrator of
the assault on the Public Fuel Filling Station (SPBU) 3413901 in
Cipinang, Pulogadung, tested positive for methamphetamine and
marijuana.

Police suspect that the combination of alcohol and narcotics affected
the suspect’s condition, causing him to act aggressively. During the
examination, the suspect’s statements changed, so the police checked his
urine.

“After a urine test, the suspect tested positive for methamphetamine
and marijuana,” he said.
",
