        "content": "<p>Man charged with helping kidnappers<\/p>\n<p>SINGAPORE (DPA): A Singapore food-stall owner has been charged<br>\nwith receiving millions of dollars in ransom money from the<br>\nfamily of an ethnic Chinese man kidnapped in Indonesia, reports<br>\nsaid yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Mohamed Arifin Yahia, 54, allegedly opened a Singapore bank<br>\naccount last June on the instruction of his cousin, 33-year-old<br>\nsales manager Rodiaman Rachman, who lives in the Indonesian<br>\ncapital Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>Some 7.5 million Singapore dollars (US$4.5 million) were<br>\nreportedly transferred into Mohamed&apos;s account in exchange for the<br>\nrelease of Indonesian tycoon Sjamsul Nursalim, 55, who was<br>\nkidnapped in Jakarta last year.<\/p>\n<p>Mohamed was charged in Singapore&apos;s Subordinate Court on Monday<br>\nwith dishonestly receiving the money, the Straits Times newspaper<br>\nsaid. He is in custody while his case continues.<\/p>\n<p>Nursalim, an ethnic Chinese otherwise known as Liem Tek Siong,<br>\nchairs Indonesia&apos;s Gajah Tunggal group. The company has interests<br>\nin tires, petrochemicals, banking and property.<\/p>\n<p>Rachman, together with kidnap mastermind Supardi Ludiat and<br>\nfive others, reportedly abducted Nursalim at gunpoint in Jakarta<br>\non Sept. 2.<\/p>\n<p>The kidnappers ordered Nursalim to hand over 12.5 million<br>\nSingapore dollars, a demand which they later reduced to 7.5<br>\nmillion, the Straits Times said.<\/p>",
