Man beaten

A man was beaten black and blue by an angry mob Saturday
\nevening for robbing and injuring a participant of "Australia
\nToday Indonesia 94".<\/p>\n
Lt. Col. Latief Rabar, spokesman for the city police, said a
\nman, simply identified as a "foreigner" was robbed and injured by
\na criminal identified as Roni at around 9 p.m. in front of the
\nRatu Plaza shopping center, Central Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The crowd, who saw the incident, got angry and then beat up
\nthe thief, Latief said.<\/p>\n
Police, who arrived on the scene after being told of the
\nincident, found Roni already in critical condition. He was then
\ndriven to the Kramat Jati police hospital in East Jakarta for
\nmedical treatment.<\/p>\n
Latief added that records regarding the identity of the victim
\nwere based on information received by police from members of the
\ncrowd.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile Miriam Tulevski, a member of the public relations
\nstaff for "Australia Today Indonesia 94", told The Jakarta Post
\nthat a participant of the promotional event had been robbed and
\ninjured Saturday evening at around 9 p.m.<\/p>\n
Tulevski identified the victim as Norm Lavis from Adelaide, an
\nofficial from the Coca Cola Corporation, which is one of the
\nmajor sponsors of the event.<\/p>\n
However she said the incident happened in the parking lot of
\nthe Century Park Hotel, not in front of Ratu Plaza shopping
