Man arrested with bullets at soccer match<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A man was arrested on Thursday for allegedly
\nattempting to bring 100 .22 caliber bullets into the stadium
\nhosting the Indonesian soccer league playoffs, a police officer
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
City police spokesman Lt. Col. Zainuri Lubis said on Friday
\nthat the suspect was identified as Suyono, 27, from Jati village
\nin Rembang, Central Java.<\/p>\n
Suyono was arrested as he was about to enter Senayan stadium
\nbefore a match between Jakarta's Pelita Bakrie and PSM
\nUjungpandang.<\/p>\n
"Based on standard procedure, our officers usually search
\nspectators for harmful objects, ranging from sharp weapons,
\nstones and bottled drinks, before spectators enter the venue,"
\nLubis said.<\/p>\n
"Suyono was arrested because he had no reason for possessing
\nthe bullets," Lubis said, adding the bullets were found in the
\nsuspect's bag.<\/p>\n
The bullets, which are usually used in air rifles, were
\nconfiscated as evidence.<\/p>\n
Suyono is being detained at city police headquarters as police
\ncontinue to build a case against the suspect.<\/p>\n
"So far police still are in the dark about the suspect's
\nmotive," Lubis said.<\/p>\n
Without a rifle the bullets were unlikely to be used, but
\npolice are suspicious as to why the man brought the bullets to
\nthe soccer match, Lubis said.<\/p>\n
Jakarta Police chief Maj. Gen. Noegroho Djajoesman earlier
\nwarned that irresponsible groups or people were expected to try
\nto use the soccer matches, which would attract national interest,
\nfor their own purposes.<\/p>\n
He said that certain groups were targeting hooligans, locally
\nknown as bonek, who were easily agitated to violence.<\/p>\n
Police have imposed tight security to safeguard the matches,
\nwhich kicked off on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
City police deployed 6,000 personnel at Senayan stadium and
\nthe surrounding areas. An additional 4,000 officers were deployed
