Maluku govt asked to be transparent<\/p>\n
AMBON, Maluku: The Catholic and Protestant churches in the
\nprovince called on the provincial administration to be
\ntransparent in giving information on violent incidents in the
\nstrife-torn province.<\/p>\n
Father B. Rahawarin, representing the Amboina Diocese and Rev.
\nD. Mailoa, representing Protestant churches in the province, said
\nthe provincial government should be transparent in reporting the
\nviolent clashes that have claimed thousands of lives since the
\nsectarian conflict erupted in January 1999.<\/p>\n
\"The government must also report on the massive killings and
\nviolent riots, especially those that occurred in the last two
\nweeks, which were committed by terrorist groups who aim to
\nthreaten security in the province,\" said Rahawarin.<\/p>\n
Mailoa said the military should take concrete steps to stop
\nthe continued conflict that would certainly worsen the situation
\nof the local people.<\/p>\n
\"Security authorities must take action against all persons who
\nincite disturbance, especially during the fasting month and in
