        "content": "<p>Malnutrition rampant in East Kalimantan<\/p>\n<p>Rusman and Blontank Poer, The Jakarta Post, Samarinda\/Surakarta<\/p>\n<p>Although East Kalimantan is popularly known as natural resource-<br>\nrich province, malnutrition is still rampant in the area. <br>\nGovernment data reveals that 174 infants, out of total 360,298 <br>\ninfants in the province, are currently suffering from <br>\nmalnutrition.<\/p>\n<p>Most of families whose infants are suffering from malnutrition <br>\nare poor, according to chief of East Kalimantan&apos;s provincial <br>\nhealth office Andi Madjid on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>In order to address the problem, the provincial government was <br>\nplanning to reactivate neighborhood health service posts, said <br>\nAndi.<\/p>\n<p>Through the posts, the government would also distribute <br>\nsupplementary meals to poor families.<\/p>\n<p>The government will also intensify surveillance of children or <br>\ninfants at risk from malnutrition, and once identified, they will <br>\nthen be taken to hospitals for intensive treatment.<\/p>\n<p>The government will pay all hospital fees, said Andi.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Some poor families are unable to provide nutritious food for <br>\ntheir children, while others can afford the food, but they don&apos;t <br>\nunderstand the importance of giving nutritious food to children,&quot; <br>\nsaid Andi.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, infants suffering from malnutrition have also found <br>\nin Sragen, Central Java.
