Malls celebrate RI anniversary with discounts<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Major shopping malls are offering huge discounts
\nto mark Independence Day tomorrow.<\/p>\n
At Mal Ciputra, Seibu, Megamal, Plaza Senayan and Pasaraya,
\nthe discounts range from 10 percent to 70 percent.<\/p>\n
For many shops, the sales are a continuation of the Jakarta
\nBig Sales that started in June to mark the capital's 470th
\nanniversary.<\/p>\n
Some malls are holding special programs.<\/p>\n
Mal Ciputra in West Jakarta is holding a Youth Fiesta from
\nAug. 20 to Aug. 31 with contests such as in logo design for Mal
\nCiputra's fifth anniversary next year, joke telling for students,
\nshop-counter design, website homepage design, T-shirt design and
\nice cream eating.<\/p>\n
Top prizes include package tours to Thailand and Singapore,
\nsaid Halida Hajadi, marketing manager of Mal Ciputra.<\/p>\n
Megamal Pluit is holding an exhibition of traditional
\nhandicrafts from various regions in the archipelago, public
\nrelations manager Wina Andriyani said.<\/p>\n
A new, somewhat more exclusive boutique mall, Mitra Hadiprana
\non Jl. Kemang Raya, is opening tomorrow.<\/p>\n
There will be a festival presenting an array of traditional
\nIndonesian snacks on the grand opening day.<\/p>\n
Competition<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the one-year-old Mal Taman Anggrek is to hold a
\nfast-food eating competition and face-painting festival today in
\nthe main atrium of the shopping mall on Jl. S. Parman at Tomang
\nin West Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The events, held to commemorate its first anniversary and the
\n52nd anniversary of Indonesia's independence, will be followed by
\nanother fast-food competition and red-and-white clothing contest
\nthe next day.<\/p>\n
\"Except for the face painting festival, which is only for
\nkids, the winners of the other events will receive gifts from Mal
\nTaman Anggrek and other sponsors,\" the spokesman of the site's
\nmanagement, PT Mulia Intipelangi, Geoffry Samuel, said yesterday.<\/p>\n
The mall will provide no less than 5,000 gifts for visitors
\nattired in the most attractive red-and-white clothes or
\naccessories, he said.<\/p>\n
According to Geoffry, all visitors, including foreigners, are
\nwelcome to participate in the games.<\/p>\n
Entry is free except for the eating contest, for which
\nparticipants will have to produce receipts worth at least Rp
\n50,000 (US$18.50) spent at any shop in the mall on the same day.<\/p>\n
Fast food on the competition menu includes burgers, spaghetti,
\nmuffins and kebab, Geoffry said.<\/p>\n
Puri Ayu traditional cosmetics producer will paint children's
\nfaces for free.<\/p>\n
All the events will start at around 12 a.m. and last until 6
