The footage, uploaded by the Instagram\naccount <span class=\"citation\" data-cites=\"jogja_admin\">@jogja_admin<\/span>, depicts the elderly woman\nattempting to force her way under a green and yellow barrier. She\nrequired physical assistance from family members and nearby residents to\npass through.<\/p>\n<p>The Regional Secretary of the Yogyakarta Provincial Government (Pemda\nDIY), Ni Made Dwipanti, stated that the difficulties faced by the\nelderly woman would serve as a basis for evaluation. She noted that the\ndesign of the barriers needs to consider access for members of the\npublic using mobility aids.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf it occurs in the field that people with disabilities or\npedestrians find it difficult to use the path, this will become a\npriority for our officers to manage,\u201d Made told reporters on Tuesday.\nShe admitted that the current design does not fully account for the\nneeds of pedestrians using mobility aids, noting that while the space\nmay be sufficient for general pedestrians, it lacks adequate room for\nwheelchairs and similar devices.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, Made clarified that the Provincial Government does not\nplan to dismantle the existing \u2018Regol Ayum\u2019 barriers entirely. Instead,\nadjustments will be made to the design so that they can still restrict\nmotor vehicles while providing proper access for pedestrians, including\nwheelchair users. She emphasised that these adjustments must be handled\ncarefully to ensure that the new access points are not exploited by\nmotor vehicles to enter the pedestrian zone.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to physical design improvements, the presence of officers\nnear the barriers is considered vital. Officers will assist in managing\naccess and educating the public on the function of the Regol Ayom.<\/p>\n<p>The installation of these barriers on several sections of Malioboro\nStreet has faced scrutiny. The Yogyakarta Provincial Transportation\nAgency (Dishub DIY) stated that the implementation is still in a trial\nphase and that officers have been deployed to assist pedestrians.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a trial. Since this is our first time operating all of them,\nwe are observing the issues that arise in the field,\u201d said the Head of\nDishub DIY, Chrestina Erni Widyastuti. She noted that one of the\nidentified problems relates to pedestrian access. Under certain\nconditions, officers will be required to open the portals to allow\nelderly individuals and those using mobility aids to pass.<\/p>\n<p>Erni explained that a scheme is being prepared where the middle\nsection of the portal can be opened when pedestrians require access. She\nemphasised that the primary principle is to protect the area as a\npedestrian-priority zone. For certain types of Regol Ayom, a telescopic\nmechanism is available that allows the barrier to be raised or opened to\ncreate space for pedestrians.<\/p>\n<p>Dishub DIY has prepared officers on a shift system at various Regol\nAyom points, working in collaboration with the Yogyakarta City\nTransportation Agency. \u201cThe refinement of the Regol Ayom remains\ndirected towards supporting the full pedestrianisation of Malioboro.
