        "content": "<p>Malaysia's control to stay<\/p>\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR (AP): Malaysia's prime minister said his<br>\ngovernment will not dismantle currency controls imposed last year<br>\nas long as world economies do nothing to curb currency<br>\nspeculation, news reports said Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The tough measures, introduced last September, effectively<br>\nhalts offshore trading of its currency, the ringgit. It also<br>\nplaces curbs on taking money in and out of the country.<\/p>\n<p>\"The controls will remain in place until the international<br>\ncommunity devises a new financial regime which curbs the<br>\nactivities of currency traders,\" Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamed<br>\nwas quoted as saying by the state-controlled New Straits Times<br>\ndaily.<\/p>\n<p>Mahathir said the chances of recovery had been made brighter<br>\nby his policy of shielding the economy from currency traders,<br>\nwhom he blames for wrecking Southeast Asian economies over the<br>\npast 18 months.<\/p>",
