Malaysian tried on murder charge<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Witnesses to the murder of an Indonesian woman
\ngave conflicting accounts to a district court here yesterday.<\/p>\n
One of the witnesses said that the suspect, a Malaysian
\ncitizen identified as GS, had made repulsive comments throughout
\nthe night prior to the murder, while the other witness denied
\nhearing the comments.<\/p>\n
\"He told us that he was deprived of women and was sure that he
\ncould easily have sex with a woman for only Rp 120,000,\" Rini,
\none of the witnesses, said.<\/p>\n
Rini, who introduced Wati, the victim, to GS, told the Central
\nJakarta district court that GS made many repulsive comments
\nthroughout the night prior to the murder.<\/p>\n
Rini also told the court that GS did not appear to be a
\nthreatening man but that she was disappointed at his rude
\nbehavior.<\/p>\n
\"He even kissed me without my consent when we were in his
\nhotel room,\" Rini said.<\/p>\n
However, Mohammad Zumar, who had accompanied GS, told the
\ncourt that he did not remember such behavior.<\/p>\n
\"The room was not too large, so it's very likely that I'd see
\neverything that happened,\" said Mohammad, a driver for the
\ngarment factory that invited GS to Indonesia.<\/p>\n
On Oct. 16, 1995, a woman was found dead in Sahid Jaya hotel
\nroom on Jl. Jendral Sudirman.<\/p>\n
The murder is believed to occurred after a heated argument
\nbetween the suspect and the victim.<\/p>\n
On Oct. 15, Wati and Rini visited GS, who was accompanied by
\nMohammad, and went to dinner at a McDonald's restaurant.<\/p>\n
After dinner, they went to the Ancol recreational area in
\nNorth Jakarta and returned to the hotel afterward.<\/p>\n
Muhammad and Rini left the hotel in taxis ordered by GS while
\nWati stayed behind, saying that she had some matters to discuss
\nwith the Malaysian.<\/p>\n
Mohammad told the court that GS had whispered to him that Wati
\nwould be returning to his room with him after Rini had left.<\/p>\n
\"I did not think anything of it,\" Mohammad added.<\/p>\n
