Malaysian Embassy responds<\/p>\n
The Embassy of Malaysia refers to a report in The Jakarta Post
\ndated April 26 entitled TNI denies deal over warships withdrawal.<\/p>\n
The Embassy regrets that the report is not only a
\nmisrepresentation of facts but also mischievous in nature. In an
\neffort to ease tensions in the Sulawesi Sea and in accordance
\nwith the cooperative spirit of Association of Southeast Asian
\nNations (ASEAN), the naval chiefs of both countries have met
\nrecently in Batam and have agreed to simultaneously reduce the
\nnumber of warships from the respective countries in the area.<\/p>\n
Based on that understanding, both countries subsequently
\nagreed to scale back their naval presence to one warship from
\neach country. The agreement was reached in good faith to avoid
\nany untoward incident happening in the region, and to positively
\ncontribute to confidence-building measures in the spirit of good
\nneighborly relations with long standing close and cordial
\nbilateral ties.<\/p>\n
As the media has such an important role to play to enhance the
\npeople to people relations and to promote better bilateral
\nrelations between the two neighborly countries, the Embassy hopes
\nthat in your future reporting of Malaysia-Indonesia relations,
\nyou will take due care to verify the facts of your reports in
\norder to avoid unnecessary problems that a factually inaccurate
\nreport could cause.<\/p>\n
