        "content": "<p>Malaysia to import sand from RI<\/p>\n<p>PEKANBARU, Riau:  Malaysian Ambassador to Indonesia Dato' Hamidon<br>\nAli said on Wednesday that Malaysia wished to buy sand from the<br>\nIndonesian government.<\/p>\n<p>\"But, we leave it for the Indonesian government to make a<br>\ndecision on this,\" the Ambassador told reporters after he met<br>\nRiau governor Saleh Djasit.<\/p>\n<p>Ali said the imported sand would be used in the construction<br>\nof Tanjung Pelepas harbor in Johor and land reclamation projects<br>\nin the city of Melaka and on Pinang Island.<\/p>\n<p>The Ambassador said the governments of Johor, Melaka and<br>\nPinang had proposed to import sand from Indonesia, as it was much<br>\ncheaper than sand from Malaysia.<\/p>\n<p>The three governments are waiting for a response from the<br>\nIndonesian government, as they had heard that Indonesia was<br>\nprohibiting the export of sand to other countries, including<br>\nSingapore, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Saleh said he had conveyed Malaysia's proposal to the central<br>\ngovernment and that the central government had the final say on<br>\nthe matter. -- JP<\/p>",
