Malaysia to deport illegal workers<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Malaysia reiterated on Thursday that it would soon
\ndeport illegal Indonesian workers, despite pleas for a gradual
\ndeportation by Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Malaysian Ambassador to Indonesia Dato' Mohammad Rastam Isa
\nsaid here on Thursday that it was the immigration law of Malaysia
\nthat all illegal migrants should be deported.<\/p>\n
\"We are waiting for details from Malaysia, but the bottom line
\nis, all illegal migrants must be deported,\" the ambassador said
\nafter a meeting with President Megawati Soekarnoputri.<\/p>\n
He stressed that Malaysia had a very strict immigration law
\nthat also penalized Malaysians employing illegal migrant workers.<\/p>\n
Reports said earlier that there were some 50,000 Indonesians
\nworking illegally in Malaysia.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Minister of Manpower and Transmigration Jacob Nuwa
\nWea repeated Indonesia's request for a gradual deportation.<\/p>\n
\"We understand that it is their law and that we should abide
\nby it. But please do it gradually, so we can handle the
\ndeportation,\" said Nuwa Wea. -- JP<\/p>",
