Malaysia, RI to boost intelligence cooperation<\/p>\n

Malaysia has called for more exchange in intelligence
\ninformation with Indonesia, including on terrorist networks in
\nthe two countries, Malaysian Police Inspector-General Norian Mai
\nsaid on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
He said he voiced the proposal at his meeting with Indonesian
\nNational Police chief Gen. Da'i Bachtiar at the federal police
\nheadquarters here.<\/p>\n
\"The exchange of information is vital to put ourselves in a
\nbetter position to curb activities that pose a threat to the
\nnation,\" he told reporters after the meeting.<\/p>\n
Norian said he would hold a special discussion with Da'i in
\nefforts to fight activities that threaten national security.<\/p>\n
The problem should be resolved collectively by all countries
\nconcerned in the region, he said.<\/p>\n
Norian said that at the meeting, the two police chiefs also
\nagreed to enhance cooperation in curbing the entry of illegal
\nimmigrants by organizing joint patrols at the entry points on
\ntheir common border.<\/p>\n
They also reached understanding on efforts to prevent the
\nsmuggling of firearms into Malaysia from Indonesia, he said.<\/p>\n
\"Besides that, cooperation has also been stepped up in joint
\noperations such as narcotics and marine operations,\" said Norian.<\/p>\n
Da'i, meanwhile, suggested that Indonesian and Malaysian
\npolice continue to improve cooperation in all fields and at all
\nlevels to ensure peace and security in the two neighboring
\ncountries.<\/p>\n
Da'i, who was leading a 10-member delegation, arrived here on
\nTuesday for a two-day visit in conjunction with the Defense
\nServices Asia Exhibition.<\/p>\n
It was the first top level meeting between police forces of
\nthe two countries. Earlier this year Indonesian police sent its
\ntop brass to cross check reports of alleged involvement of
\nIndonesian nationals in radical Muslim organizations which
\nattempted to foment an Islamic state in Malaysia.<\/p>\n
Norian earlier had a meeting with the police chief of Laos,
\nColonel Khampha Sengdara Dir.<\/p>",
