        "content": "<p>In a statement received in Jakarta on Friday (July 31), the Malaysian\nEmbassy said it had been informed by Indonesia\u2019s National Police\nnarcotics unit about the detention of the Malaysian national.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe embassy respects Indonesia\u2019s legal process and is engaging with\nthe relevant Indonesian authorities,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<p>The embassy added it was also working to obtain consular access to\nthe detained Malaysian citizen.<\/p>\n<p>Related news: Indonesia probes wider network in Malaysian pilot\u2019s\ndrug case<\/p>\n<p>A pilot with the initials MSBO, 39, was arrested on July 28 after\ncustoms officers at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport\u2019s Terminal 3\nbecame suspicious of a suitcase he was carrying.<\/p>\n<p>A search of the suitcase uncovered 14 large packages of ecstasy pills\nand one package containing methamphetamine, police said.<\/p>\n<p>Police seized 70,114 ecstasy pills weighing a net 25,194.83 grams,\nBrigadier General Eko Hadi Santoso, head of the National Police\nnarcotics unit, said.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators said MSBO told a joint interrogation team he had been\npromised 50,000 Malaysian ringgit for transporting the drugs by a person\nbelieved to be in Malaysia.<\/p>\n<p>The payment was equivalent to about 220 million rupiah (US$13,400),\nbased on the exchange rate cited by Indonesian police.<\/p>\n<p>Related news: Malaysian pilot held in Jakarta with 25 kg of drugs<\/p>\n<p>Soekarno-Hatta Customs Chief Hengky Tomuan Parlindungan Aritonang\nsaid the suspect tested positive for narcotics after his arrest.<\/p>\n<p>Before being detained, MSBO had operated Malaysia Airlines flight\nMH727 from Kuala Lumpur to Indonesia, carrying at least 170 passengers,\nHengky said.<\/p>\n<p>The case has entered the formal investigation stage and the suspect\nis being held at the National Police Criminal Investigation Department\ndetention facility in Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors accused MSBO of violating multiple provisions of\nIndonesia\u2019s 2009 Narcotics Law, including articles covering the\ntrafficking, distribution and attempted distribution of illegal\ndrugs.<\/p>\n<p>If convicted under the charges, the suspect could face severe\npenalties under Indonesia\u2019s anti-narcotics legislation, which provides\nfor lengthy prison terms and, in the most serious cases, capital\npunishment.<\/p>\n<p>Related news: Indonesia, Malaysia coordinate on pilot drug smuggling\ncase<\/p>\n<p>Translator: Nabil I, Rahmad Nasution<\/p>",
