Malaysia raps S'pore papers<\/p>\n
KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters): Malaysia's transport minister took a
\nswipe at Singapore newspapers yesterday for playing up reports
\nabout the recent chaos at Kuala Lumpur's new airport, saying the
\nremarks were made out of envy.<\/p>\n
Transport Minister Ling Liong Sik's comments came after
\nForeign Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi warned that the action by
\nthe Singapore media did not augur well for relations between the
\nSoutheast Asian neighbors.<\/p>\n
Malaysia's national news agency Bernama quoted Ling yesterday
\nas saying the Singapore media was envious of the new Kuala Lumpur
\ninternational airport (KLIA).<\/p>\n
"It's the behavior of a competitor who likes to run down
\n(KLIA) so that fewer passengers will be using our airport," he
\nsaid. "They also see that KLIA has the potential to be the hub of
\nregional air transportation."<\/p>\n
The nine billion ringgit ($2.1 billion) airport ran into a
\nhost of teething troubles, including computer glitches for about
\na week after it opened on June 30.
