Malaysia police sue 'Asiaweek'<\/p>\n
KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Malaysian police have lodged a report
\nagainst Asiaweek magazine over an article about break-ins at
\nresidences of foreign diplomats in the country, a news report
\nsaid yesterday.<\/p>\n
Kuala Lumpur police chief Bakri Omar said the report, under
\nthe Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984, would enable a
\nprobe into false allegations in the article titled Hardship in
\nAsiaweek's Oct. 3 issue. The magazine is distributed here ahead
\nof its listed date.<\/p>\n
\"The article in the magazine stating that there were 100 cases
\nof break-ins and robberies involving foreign diplomats within a
\nperiod of two years, is completely unfounded,\" Bakri was reported
\nas saying in The Star.<\/p>\n
There were 12 criminal cases reported involving the residences
\nor offices of foreign diplomats last year, and seven had been
\nreported this year, he said.<\/p>\n
Asiaweek also quoted some diplomats, without identifying them
\nor their countries, as saying Malaysian authorities were not
\ngiving adequate attention to their security problems.<\/p>",
