        "content": "<p>Malaysia nabs 10 in loan scandal<\/p>\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Ten senior executives of a troubled<br>\nMalaysian merchant bank, Rakyat Merchant Bankers Bhd., have been<br>\narrested in connection with a 180-million ringgit (US$72 million)<br>\nloan scandal, police officials said yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Nine were arrested at their homes in an eight-hour operation<br>\nWednesday, while another surrendered to police, Malaysian<br>\ncommercial crime police said.<\/p>\n<p>\"We have no comments. We are still investigating,\" a spokesman<br>\nof the commercial crime section at police headquarters said.<\/p>\n<p>The Star English-language daily reported Thursday the nine,<br>\naged between 30 and 48, were arrested following several months of<br>\ninvestigations into alleged lending irregularities since November<br>\n1993.<\/p>\n<p>The Star said several important documents relating to the<br>\napproval of the loans were also seized from several of the<br>\nsuspects.<\/p>",
