        "content": "<p>Malaysia monitors deviationist groups<\/p>\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Malaysian religious and law enforcement<br>\nagencies are monitoring 55 Islamic groups allegedly spreading<br>\nteachings that deviate from Islam and threaten national security,<br>\na minister said on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Minister in the prime minister's department Abdul Hamid Othman<br>\nwarned that the powerful Internal Security Act (ISA) -- which<br>\nallows detention without trial -- may be invoked if the groups<br>\ncontinued their activities.<\/p>\n<p>\"The authorities will not hesitate to invoke the ISA if the<br>\nactivities of the leaders and followers of these groups reach an<br>\nalarming stage,\" he was reported as saying by Bernama news<br>\nagency.<\/p>\n<p>Hamid said most of the groups, which called themselves by<br>\nvarious names, operate in remote plantations and circulate<br>\nleaflets on \"unIslamic\" teachings which confuse Moslems besides<br>\n\"being a nuisance to others\".<\/p>",
