MAKASSAR, South Sulawesi: Malaysia deported 336 more illegal
\nworkers from Indonesia last week, an Indonesian official said
\nhere on Saturday.<\/p>\n
The workers, sent home from the Malaysian town of Tawao,
\narrived in Parepare, north of Makassar, on Nov. 18, port
\nspokesman Darwis Astonius said.<\/p>\n
The decision to expel the 336 to Parepare, one of Indonesia's
\nclosest spots to Malaysia, was the second, following a similar
\nstep to deport 670 illegal workers from Indonesia a few weeks
\nago.<\/p>\n
Most of the illegal workers were from West Nusa Tenggara and
\nEast Nusa Tenggara provinces, he said.<\/p>\n
He added that the others came from East Kalimantan, East Java
\nand South Sulawesi provinces.<\/p>\n
Most had already returned to their hometowns and the others
\nwere staying at a recruitment center in Parepare, Darwis said.<\/p>\n
The illegal workers, who had failed to equip themselves with
\nsufficient legal documentation while in Malaysia, had been
\ndetained before they were sent home, he said.<\/p>\n
The higher salaries attainable in neighboring countries such
\nas Singapore and Malaysia attract Indonesians to work there. --

AMBON, Maluku: The government of South Korea has donated eight
\nsecond-hand boats to Indonesia, following a bilateral agreement
\nsigned by both countries recently.<\/p>\n
Four boats arrived in Maluku on Nov. 17, and four more
\nwould be dispatched from Korea to Maluku immediately, an official
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Aji Sularso, a secretary to the director of fisheries at the
\nMinistry of Fisheries and Maritime Affairs, said that the speed
\nof the boats was 8 knots to 9 knots on average, and all were less
\nthan 10 years old.<\/p>\n
Aji said that the boats had been given to the Indonesian
\ngovernment as part of a restructuring program for the fishing
\nfleet owned by the South Korean government.<\/p>\n
According to Aji, six boats would be used for fishing while
\nthe two others would function as training and maritime research
\nvessels.<\/p>\n
The Indonesian government would establish a company to operate
\nthe six boats and the fishing revenue they generated would pass

Lightning kills four in Lombok<\/p>\n
MATARAM, West Nusa Tenggara: Four people, all from the same
\nfamily, were killed and two others injured after being struck by
\nlightning in the West Nusa Tenggara village, Rarang.<\/p>\n
Three of the four killed were the children of Mahsun: Yunus
\nGozali, 37, Syawaludin, 35 and Inaq Sumiyati, 30.<\/p>\n
The fourth to die was Mahnim, the son-in-law of Mahsun.<\/p>\n
Lightning also left two other people injured, namely Juminggah
\nand Loq Udin, but it was unclear if they were also members of the
\nextended family of Mahsun.<\/p>\n
The accident occurred on Wednesday afternoon, when the six
\npeople were clearing grass in their paddy field, according to
\nMuchsan, an official with the village administration.<\/p>\n
They ran to a nearby hut when rain began to fall in the area.
\nSuddenly, the hut was struck by lightning, which killed the four

Megawati to donate rescue boat<\/p>\n
DENPASAR, Bali: President Megawati Soekarnoputri is slated to
\ngive a 22-meter rescue boat to the Bali search and rescue (SAR)
\nteam in order to help the body to perform its daily tasks.<\/p>\n
\"The proposed donation was conveyed recently by Minister of
\nCommunications Agum Gumelar,\" said chairman of SAR Bali I Ketut
\nParwa.<\/p>\n
The boat will be handed over by the government to the SAR body
\nin December this year.<\/p>\n
Parwa did not provide details on the boat, simply that it was
\nsophisticated. He said that five members of SAR Bali would be
\ndispatched immediately to Jakarta, to learn how to operate it.<\/p>\n
Parwa said that Megawati promised the boat after she learned
\nthat the SAR team had limited equipment for rescuing people who
\nwent missing in Bali waters.<\/p>\n
He said Megawati was impressed when the SAR team rescued one
\nof two participants of the jet ski world championship event Bali
\nInternational Offshore 2002 who went missing during the function
\nin January last year, despite limited equipment.<\/p>\n
The SAR team had no dedicated boat for search and rescue
