        "content": "<p>\u201cOur environment minister has sent a letter to Indonesia\u2019s\nenvironment minister and maintained verbal communication with him,\u201d said\nFarzamie Sarkawi, Charge d\u2019Affaires a.i. of the Malaysian Embassy in\nJakarta, speaking after a local event.<\/p>\n<p>Sarkawi stated that Indonesian authorities approved Malaysian\nweather-modification operations along their shared border.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe work has begun there,\u201d he said, expressing hope that the joint\nefforts in border areas would suppress fires in Kalimantan and reduce\nsmoke drifting into Malaysian airspace.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe do hope the situation will be better soon. We are also ready to\nhelp Indonesia whenever needed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Forest fires originating in Indonesia\u2019s Kalimantan and Sumatra have\ngenerated smoke plumes extending across Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, and\ninto parts of the Philippines. The environmental crisis prompted\nMalaysia to declare a brief state of emergency in Sarawak\u2019s border\nregion of Serian earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>At the regional level, Malaysia is working with Singapore and\nIndonesia to utilize existing protocols under the 2002 ASEAN Agreement\non Transboundary Haze Pollution (AATHP). However, Sarkawi noted that\ncollective bloc actions require full consensus among member states.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed ongoing\nconsultations with neighboring governments to enforce the framework and\ncontrol transboundary environmental impacts.<\/p>\n<p>Translator: Nabil Ihsan<\/p>",
