The illegal activities of a Malaysia Airlines pilot, Mohd Saufi bin\nOthman (39), who was arrested at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport\n(Soetta) for alleged drug smuggling, have been uncovered. The pilot\ntested positive for the consumption of three types of narcotics.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom the results of the urine test, it turns out he tested positive\nfor methamphetamine, ecstasy, and cocaine. Therefore, he was under the\ninfluence while flying,\u201d said the Head of Soekarno-Hatta Customs, Hengky\nTomuan Parlindungan Aritonang, to reporters on Sunday (2\/8\/2026).<\/p>\n
Soetta Customs spokesperson, Satria Yudhatama, stated that the\nperpetrator attempted to deceive officials by carrying a bottle of\n\u2018clean\u2019 urine as a precaution. \u201cBased on information from the\nsupervision unit, a bottle containing urine was indeed found, which was\nan anticipation measure in case a urine test was conducted,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
However, he had not yet used the substitute urine when the test was\nperformed. The urine in the bottle was intended for use during\nunexpected inspections. \u201cInside the suspect\u2019s bag, a small bottle\ncontaining a yellow liquid, which turned out to be urine, was found.\nAccording to his confession, the bottle contained \u2018clean\u2019 urine from\nbefore he consumed narcotics. He planned to use it if there were sudden\nurine tests by the airline or aviation authorities,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

The Director of Narcotics Crime at the Indonesian National Police\nCriminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri), Brigadier General Eko\nHadi Santoso, explained that the Malaysian pilot was apprehended after\nCustoms officers grew suspicious during an X-ray inspection of passenger\nluggage at Terminal 3 International Arrivals at Soetta Airport on\nTuesday (28\/7\/2026) at approximately 23:30 WIB.<\/p>\n
\u201cOfficers noticed a suspicious suitcase, which was then claimed by\nits owner, Mohd Saufi bin Othman, a pilot for a foreign airline,\u201d\nBrigadier General Eko Hadi stated in his briefing on Thursday\n(30\/7).<\/p>\n
Upon inspecting the suitcase and the owner in the Customs office\nexamination room, it was discovered that the luggage contained\nmethamphetamine. \u201cDuring the inspection, the team found 14 large packets\nof ecstasy and one packet of methamphetamine,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Customs subsequently informed the Narcotics Crime Unit of Bareskrim\nPolri. During interrogation, the suspect, Saufi, admitted he was\ninstructed by an individual to bring the drugs to Jakarta. \u201cThe suspect,\nSaufi, was instructed by someone to bring the ecstasy to Jakarta for a\nfee of RM 50,000,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Response from Malaysia Airlines<\/p>\n
Malaysia Airlines has responded to the incident involving its pilot\nattempting to smuggle dozens of kilograms of ecstasy. The airline stated\nit would cooperate with Indonesian authorities in accordance with\napplicable laws and regulations.<\/p>\n
As reported by the official Malaysian news agency, Bernama, Malaysia\nAirlines stated it is refraining from further comment but is taking the\nallegations seriously.
