        "content": "<p>Malang schools get budget cut<\/p>\n<p>SURABAYA: Cash assistance for eight elementary schools in<br>\nGedangan district, Malang regency, has reportedly been cut by up<br>\nto Rp 76 million (US$7,600) by an official at Malang's education<br>\noffice.<\/p>\n<p>East Java councillor Kuswiyanto said on Friday that a school<br>\nprincipal had reported the reduction to the council.<\/p>\n<p>\"The principal of Segaran II elementary school reported that<br>\nthere is assistance to procure school equipment worth Rp 4.7<br>\nmillion, but it turns out the equipment being delivered is on<br>\nloan from another school while the assistance itself should<br>\nactually total Rp 24 million,\" Kurwiyanto said.<\/p>\n<p>When the council looked into the matter, he said it found that<br>\nseven other schools had experienced the same cuts. \"The funding<br>\nis part of direct assistance to improve basic education valued at<br>\nRp 90 million at each school,\" he said. -- Antara<\/p>",
