        "content": "<p>An explosion at a house in Sumbul Hamlet, Klampok Village, Singosari\nDistrict, Malang Regency, East Java, occurred yesterday. Malang Police\nDistrict suspects it was caused by homemade fireworks produced at the\nscene. Assistant Commissioner Bambang Subinanjar, Head of Public\nRelations for Malang Police District, stated on Wednesday that the\nsuspicion was based on initial crime scene examination and evidence\ncollection, including shell casings containing powder residue and tools\nsuspected to be used for making fireworks. \u2018A team from local police,\nalong with the Gegana Bomb Disposal Unit of the Brimob Mobile Brigade\nand the East Java Provincial Police Forensic Laboratory Department,\nconducted site sterilisation, further crime scene processing, sample\ncollection, and secured 18 pieces of evidence from the scene,\u2019 Bambang\nsaid, quoted on Wednesday, 27 May 2026. He added that the joint\npersonnel also secured additional evidence such as compacting tools,\nfirework fuses, and paper fragments with residual powder. \u2018All evidence\nis undergoing laboratory testing to confirm its composition,\u2019 he said.\nMalang Police District and East Java Provincial Police are still\ninvestigating to determine the origin of the explosive material.\nAccording to Malang Police District, the explosion occurred on Sunday\n(24 May) evening, injuring six family members. One victim, Syamsul\nArifin (26), suffered 60 per cent burns and is receiving intensive care\nat Dr Saiful Anwar Regional General Hospital in Malang City. The other\nfive family members\u2014Yatin (52), Nur Vitaniyah (25), Malinda (15), Kenzi\nAlfaro (3), and Febriansyah\u2014sustained minor injuries. This is not the\nfirst such incident in Malang; a similar explosion occurred on Saturday\n(23 May) in Jenggolo Village, Kepanjen District, Malang Regency, killing\na resident identified as S (48). In light of these incidents, Bambang\nsaid authorities are enhancing preventive measures through neighbourhood\nsecurity patrols. \u2018We urge the public not to assemble or store fireworks\nas they are extremely dangerous and pose a risk of fatalities,\u2019 he\nsaid.<\/p>",
