MALANG \u2014 A joint surveillance operation by Malang Customs and the\nMalang Regency Government on Wednesday (19\/8\/2026) secured 5,604 illegal\ncigarettes. The joint team targeted several shops selling untaxed\ntobacco products, or illegal cigarettes, in the districts of Kepanjen,\nPagelaran, Pagak, and Bantur.<\/p>\n
Pitoyo Pribadi, Head of the Counselling and Information Services\nSection at Malang Customs, said the joint operation was a form of\nimplementation of the Tobacco Excise Revenue Sharing Fund (DBH CHT). It\nalso formed part of the synergy between Malang Customs and the Malang\nRegency Government in suppressing the circulation of illegal cigarettes\nacross the Malang Raya region.<\/p>\n
The seized evidence comprised 2,644 cigarettes from two shops in\nKepanjen District, 2,340 from a shop in Pagelaran District, and 620 in\nPagak District. Meanwhile, an inspection carried out in Bantur District\nfound no illegal cigarettes.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll of the seized evidence has been secured and taken to the Malang\nCustoms Office for further processing in accordance with prevailing laws\nand regulations,\u201d said Pitoyo.<\/p>\n
He stressed that every rupiah of state revenue secured from the\nexcise sector delivers significant benefits to the public. When illegal\ncigarettes circulate without official excise stamps, the state loses\nsubstantial potential income that could otherwise be allocated for\npublic welfare.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo ensure these benefits are felt directly in the regions, the\ngovernment allocates the Tobacco Excise Revenue Sharing Fund (DBH CHT)\nwith a distribution of 40 percent for health, 50 percent for community\nwelfare, and 10 percent for law enforcement,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
In the health sector, the funds are used to support the National\nHealth Insurance (JKN) programme, BPJS Kesehatan contributions for the\npoor, and improvements to health facility infrastructure. In community\nwelfare, the benefits take the form of direct cash assistance (BLT) for\ntobacco farm labourers and cigarette factory workers, as well as\nvocational training to enhance people\u2019s skills. Meanwhile, in law\nenforcement, the funds are used by regional governments in cooperation\nwith Customs for public awareness campaigns, market operations, and the\neradication of illegal cigarettes.<\/p>\n
Malang Customs called on the public and business operators to play an\nactive role by not selling or distributing illegal cigarettes, and to\npromptly report any suspected violations in the customs and excise\nsector.
