        "content": "<p>Making it a clean sweep<\/p>\n<p>It was an hour before noon, but the sea of people to Karang Rejek<br>\nvillage office in Wonosari district did not abate despite the<br>\nscorching sun.<\/p>\n<p>The villagers were intent on taking part in the community<br>\ncleanup ritual Rasulan, an annual event in parched Gunung Kidul,<br>\nYogyakarta, to show gratitude for a successful harvest.<\/p>\n<p>The ritual -- held on the most auspicious day according to the<br>\nJavanese calendar -- is believed to bring more blessings in the<br>\ncoming year, with offerings presented in attractive gunungan<br>\n(coned-shaped rice) and decorated with animal figures.<\/p>\n<p>The ritual, fully funded and prepared by the villagers<br>\nthemselves, is not just an attractive show for the cameras, but<br>\ndemonstrates that the spirit of togetherness lives on.<\/p>\n<p>-- Text and photos by P.J.
