'Make sinetron fest merry'<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): As organizers of the Indonesian Sinetron
\nFestival (FSI) continued to prepare for the airing of Indonesia's
\ntelevision awards event tomorrow night, a senior official at the
\nMinistry of Information yesterday urged them to create a festive
\natmosphere.<\/p>\n
The Director General for Radio, Television and Film,
\nDewabrata, said the festival, in which dozens of awards are to be
\ngiven to the best in the flourishing TV industry, should be made
\nas merry as possible.<\/p>\n
The Ministry of Information said Alex Kumara headed a six-
\nperson delegation of the FSI organizers to meet with Dewabrata at
\nthe latter's office yesterday.<\/p>\n
Minister of Information R. Hartono has agreed to attend
\ntomorrow night's star-studded event, which provides recognition
\nto those working in the industry, particularly actors and
\nactresses.<\/p>\n
Dewabrata said the festival should bring in as many singers
\nand musicians as possible, especially those involved in the
\nmaking of sinetron, as teleserials are called in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
The organizers have chosen RCTI's Studio 4 as the venue
\ninstead of a luxury hotel, reportedly to save costs and to avoid
\ncreating an impression of extravagance at a time of national
\neconomic crisis.<\/p>\n
Alex said some 240 TV stars will attend the festival, which
\nwill be broadcast live by all six Indonesian television stations
\ntomorrow night.<\/p>\n
Altogether, more than 40 awards will be given out, ranging
\nfrom the best sinetron critic and best talk show, to the best
\ndirector, actor and actress in the three categories of drama,
\ndrama series and comedy series.<\/p>\n
TPI's Mat Angin has the most nominations for a comedy series
\nand RCTI's Bukan Perempuan Biasa heads the nominations for the
\ndrama series category. Sepanjang Jalan Kenangan, which has not
\nbeen aired yet, has collected the most nominations in the drama
