Jakarta, VIVA \u2013 The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency\n(BMKG) forecasts the potential for light, moderate, to heavy rain, which\nmay be accompanied by lightning and strong winds, in various major\ncities across Indonesia today.<\/p>\n
BMKG forecaster Bintari explained that, generally, a convergence zone\nhas formed from the Gulf of Thailand to the South China Sea and the\nnorthern coast of Papua New Guinea to the North Pacific Ocean of Papua\nNew Guinea. These conditions are capable of increasing the potential for\nrain cloud growth along the areas traversed by convergence or\nconfluence.<\/p>\n
\u201cTherefore, most major cities are predicted to experience cloudy\nweather to light rain, while rain with moderate to heavy intensity\naccompanied by lightning is predicted to occur in the Padang region,\u201d\nshe stated, as quoted from the official BMKG website in Jakarta,\nSaturday, 12 September 2026.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, regions predicted to experience light rain include Banda\nAceh, Medan, Tanjung Pinang, Jambi, Bengkulu, Bandung, Semarang, Tanjung\nSelor, Mamuju, Palu, Nabire, and Jayawijaya.<\/p>\n
As for major cities predicted to experience cloudy conditions today,\nthese include Pekanbaru, Jakarta, Serang, Yogyakarta, Surabaya,\nDenpasar, Mataram, Kupang, Makassar, Kendari, Gorontalo, Manado, Ambon,\nTernate, Sorong, Manokwari, and Jayapura.<\/p>\n
Previously, on Friday (11\/9), BMKG mentioned that several waters in\nNorth Sumatra (Sumut) are at risk of being hit by waves as high as four\nmetres due to strong winds from 11 to 14 September 2026.<\/p>\n
\u201cWaves as high as four metres could occur in the waters west of the\nNias Islands, the waters west of the Batu Islands, and the eastern\nwaters of the Nias Islands,\u201d said BMKG Forecaster at the Class II\nMaritime Meteorology Station Belawan, Dasmian Sulviani, in Medan, on\nFriday.<\/p>\n
