        "content": "<p>The Majalengka Regency Government has declared its full support and\ncommitment to the proposal to name the great West Java ulama, KH Abbas\nAbdul Jamil, as a National Hero.<\/p>\n<p>This was conveyed by the Bupati of Majalengka, Eman Suherman, while\nattending the National Seminar on the Proposal for the National Hero\nTitle of KH Abbas Abdul Jamil held at the Hall of MA Unggulan Amanatul\nUmmah 02 Leuwimunding on Sunday (9\/8\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>The seminar featured the Professor of Islamic Civilisation History at\nUIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, who is also the Chair of the Central\nTitle Research and Assessment Team (TP2GP), Prof Usep Abdul Matin, and\nthe General Chair of Pergunu, Prof KH Asep Saifuddin Chalim. The event\nwas also attended by various community figures and ulama from across\nRegion 3 Cirebon.<\/p>\n<p>Eman stressed that the effort to secure the National Hero title for\nthe figure nicknamed the \u201cLion of West Java\u201d is not merely about\nremembering the past, but rather an effort to affirm the nation\u2019s\nidentity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn behalf of the Majalengka Regency Government, I declare full\nsupport and commitment to the effort to propose KH Abbas Abdul Jamil as\na National Hero. This struggle is the struggle of West Java, and is our\nshared pride,\u201d said Eman.<\/p>\n<p>Eman revealed that KH Abbas Abdul Jamil\u2019s track record as the\ncaretaker of Buntet Cirebon Islamic Boarding School saw him appear on\nthe front line leading the West Java santri forces in answering the call\nof the Jihad Resolution. He led the battle to defend independence on 10\nNovember 1945 in Surabaya.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to being a fighter, KH Abbas was also known as a pioneer\nof pesantren education reform incorporating general sciences since the\n1920s.<\/p>\n<p>Based on the review by the Central Title Research and Assessment Team\n(TP2GP), KH Abbas Abdul Jamil is one of 38 national hero candidates\ndeclared to have met the requirements with the most complete historical\ndata based on primary sources.<\/p>\n<p>For this reason, Eman emphasised the importance of academic forums,\nsuch as seminars and book reviews, to strengthen scientific arguments\nand broaden publication to the public. \u201cThe book we are reviewing today\nis not merely sheets of paper, but a civilisational endeavour to place a\nhero in his rightful place,\u201d he asserted.<\/p>",
