        "content": "<p>Mahathir leaves for hi-tech sales blitz<\/p>\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad<br>\nleft here yesterday for visits to the United States and Japan to<br>\npromote the country's newly created technology hub.<\/p>\n<p>Mahathir will make a week-long trip to the United States<br>\nbefore proceeding to Japan on Jan. 18 to lure high-technology<br>\ninvestors to Malaysia's so-called multimedia super corridor<br>\n(MSC), launched by the premier last August.<\/p>\n<p>The MSC is located in suburban Sepang, about 40 miles (64<br>\nkilometers) south of Kuala Lumpur between Malaysia's<br>\nadministrative capital Putrajaya and the capital's new<br>\ninternational aiport.<\/p>\n<p>Mahathir is scheduled to address an industry meeting at the<br>\nUniversity of California, Los Angeles, before proceeding to San<br>\nFrancisco where he is slated to meet 22 global multimedia<br>\nindustry leaders.<\/p>\n<p>They include Microsoft chairman Bill Gates and International<br>\nBusiness Machine Corp. chief Lou Gerstner, as well as key players<br>\nfrom Japan, Canada and Europe, officials said.<\/p>",
