Mahathir, Bolkiah talk crisis<\/p>\n
KUDAT, Malaysia (AFP): Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said
\nyesterday he discussed the Asian economic crisis and regional
\ncooperation with Brunei's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah during an
\novernight visit to the sultanate.<\/p>\n
"We made assessments about the economic situation and the kind
\nof cooperation between ASEAN countries," he told reporters on his
\narrival in the eastern state of Sabah, which shares a border with
\nthe oil-rich country.<\/p>\n
Mahathir said he briefed the sultan on his recent visits to
\nThailand, the Philippines and Singapore, adding that he was also
\nbriefed on the Brunei leader's recent visit to Singapore.<\/p>\n
"Both leaders talked at length on current issues affecting the
\nregion," The Star reported from the Brunei capital Bandar Seri
\nBegawan.<\/p>\n
The newspaper quoted Mahathir's aides as saying that the talks
\nwith the Brunei ruler, one of the world's richest men, focussed
\non ways the sultanate could assist in the region's recovery.<\/p>",
